Klubi u formua në Shtator 1972 si Ballshi i Ri, dhe ata luajtën në Divizionin e Tretë Shqiptar midis 1973 dhe 1976. Por midis 1976 dhe 1981 ata nuk u lejuan të marrin pjesë në futbollin shqiptar për shkak të ligjeve që kufizojnë një ekip të vetëm nga secili rreth. Ata filluan të luanin edhe një herë në Divizionin e Tretë në 1981, të cilin përfundimisht e fituan në 1986 dhe u promovuan në Divizionin e Dytë Shqiptar . Klubi luajti në Divizionin e Dytë për 10 vjet midis 1986 dhe 1996, ku ata u promovuan pas një sezoni të suksesshëm 1995-96, i cili e pa klubin të shënojë 124 gola dhe të pranojë vetëm 21, duke e bërë atë një rekord kombëtar, i cili u shënua edhe nga prestigjioz francez revista France Football. Sidoqoftë, përkundër sezonit të tyre rekord të thyer ata përfunduan si vrapues në ligë por prapë arritën promovim në Superligën Shqiptare .
